On the 5th June 9 of the Lodge members went to the pub! What’s so unusual about I hear you say? Well this particular pub is the Old Forge and according to the Guinness Book of Records it is the most remote pub in Britain!
So here’s the script, the 9 walkers and 2 drivers left Cruden Bay at 5:30 am on the Saturday morning and drove for the best part of six hours to Kinloch Hourn, here the walkers disembarked and set of on their 15 mile trek to the pub!
Arriving at the bunk house in Inverie at around 7.30pm the guys just had enough time to wash and change before heading for the Old Forge for a well deserved pint and a meal. As if that wasn’t enough for one day the Lodge musicians Gordon Mackay and John Simpson were booked to play to the amazingly receptive audience.
A great night was had by all and the boys were asked to turn out again to entertain the locals on the Sunday night which proved to be equally enjoyable and appreciatively received.
The weekend was undoubtedly a great success and the Lodge as ever gave a good account of itself amidst new friends. A fuller account of our adventures will be posted in due course, but for the meanwhile we should at least acknowledge the efforts of the walkers who included almost a full compliment of office bearers including RWM-Mark Dunn, DM-Kenny Davidson, SM-Ewan Robertson, SW-Derek Clark, JW-Gordon Mackay, SW-Neil Daniel, IG-John Simpson, OG-David Platt, in addition to our office bearers we also had recently raised MM Richard Scott in tow as well. The Lodge is also grateful to local Cruden Bay man Kevin Shearer, who worked for many years in Inverie, and returned there once more as our driver for the weekend.
